I bought a new PC in August.
Just recently is is freezing approx. 5 minutes after start up.
Ctrl Alt Del wont work & nor the cursor.
After rebooting using the mains switch or reset button, the PC then runs
normally for as long as it is being used.
Also, I have noticed that it is taking around 30 seconds to open relatively
small Word and Excel files.
I am running XP ser pack 2 plus Kaspersky Inetrnet Security 2009
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Although you posted to the Office for Macintosh group, what you
described sounds more like a hardware problem than a software problem.

First thing I'd check os to make sure the RAM chips are properly seated.
Then run a RAM test. My bet is RAM that's loose or defective.

And you would expect to find a solution in the newsgroup for MS Office on
the Macintosh because....? :)

Seriously, I'd suggest you contact the vendor from whom you bought the PC.
If they don't offer any support you may be able to get some help in one of
the Windows XP support channels or newsgroups which you'll find here:

http://support.microsoft.com/ph/1173

My guess is that the Kaspersky product or some other AV or utility software
may be involved.

Good Luck |:>)
