I am having a similar problem with mine, does yours just freeze or does it
sometimes have the display go weird and start fading or patterns coming on it?
Look at my "word keeps crashing" post there have been some replies but the
problem is not sorted though.

There are a few things that can cause your system to freeze, such as
too many commands when it's working (overload when you click, click,
click when it doesn't respond...and PILE up the processor)...or you
can have something working in the background that sucks up all your
current resources. However, in these cases, usually if you leave the
system alone to finish working, it'll eventually clear up.

But most people are impatient and crash the system by ending the
application prematurely or the app crashes (stops responding) on it's
own. Thus, usually making the problem worse because now you have crash
files that you probably don't know to clear up and the system becomes
even more unstable.

However, one of the most common reasons a system freezes is because
the video driver is not up to speed for the system. People upgrade
software and such and never consider to upgrade their video driver. So
the poor old guy can't handle the newer technology and freaks
(freezes).

To keep your system running better, you should regularly clear your
TEMP folder and also test your video driver by tuning down the
hardware accelerator to see if that helps. If so, upgrade your driver
(it's free from your video manufacturer).

See this article below for details on these two (and a few more)
processes.

If that doesn't help...then you need to continue troubleshooting the
problem by trying other troubleshooting techniques, one by one, to
decipher the problem.
