Computer pauses with incoming mail

This situation just started a couple of days ago.
When mail is incoming, Outlook takes over the computer and virtually locks
it up until all the mail is received and the send/receive complete leaves the
screen.
This is a 6 month old computer with 4GB of memory plus a 4GB flash drive.

Which version of Outlook are you using?
Which mail account type are you using?
If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable this
integration and try again.
I assume you are using the flash drive for Ready Boost? Your gain would be
minimal to none then if you already have 4GB of memory. But that is another
story. I would use the 4GB flash for something more useful then ;-)
