Computer screen goes black when deleting from inbox

I came across a very odd problem at a client. This system is running XP Pro
and Outlook 2002. When you go to delete some messages in the inbox the
system screen goes black, the monitor power light goes into standby mode as
if it's not receiving a signal and the hard drive light is on. The only way
to get out of this is to power down. I've run chkdsk /r and that came up ok.
I've run the scanpst.exe program and that was ok. I exported everything to
a pst file, created a new profile then imported the data, but nothing seems
to fix this bizarre issue. Any of you Microsoft people have any ideas of
what's causing this and how to fix it?

does it happen with every message? if yes, have you emptied the deleted
folder? if not, is there anything similar with the messages that cause it?

Diane,

Thank you for the reply. It does not happen with every message. It is kind
of random in occurence. There's nothing unique about a message that makes
the computer lock like this. This client is unfortunately using his deleted
folder as a saved message folder. He goes through it and cleans out the
messages he really doesn't want from time to time. Should I try moving all
of his "saved" messages out to a new dedicated saved message folder? Any
other suggestions?

Scott
