computer to computer data transfer?

I want to transfer about 11 GB from one computer to another, both of
which are in my house.

I've read the help file, and it seems I have to buy network interface
cards for both and set up a home network.

I don't want to share printers, share an internet connection or share
folders on a full time basis. If the transfer is slow, I can handle
that ok.

Both computers have a USB connector although 1 is USB and the other
is USB2.

Since I just want something quick and simple, is there anyway to
transfer data using the USB connectors on each computer??

Computer #1 is my desktop, win 98 with USB, parallel, and rs232
ports.

Computer #2 is a new laptop, with XP with USB only.

If this is the wrong newsgroup, please suggest a more appropriate one.
