concordance file/index entries

When creating a concordance file to automate the index creation process, Word Help tells me the index entries listed in the concordance file must appear EXACTLY as it does in the document. It's a pain to type in all variations of an index entry (all upper case, lower case, etc. etc.). Is there a way to make the index entries listed in the concordance file case-insensitive so Word will recogize the words listed irrespective of case
