concurrent Project installations

People,
I currently run Project 98 and 2000 on Windows XP home. I just purchased
Project 2003 and would like to install it also. Are there any issues
having all three versions installed simultaneously (even though it may
not be recommended)?

For reference, I would like to have the ability to use any of the three
versions for newsgroup response compatibility. For example, a poster has
a Project 98 question. I want to be able to open Project 98 and see
exactly what the poster sees before responding.

Hi John,

I run Project 4, 98, 2000, 2002, and 2003 (All Standard versions) on the
same PC (in different directories) for the same purpose as you without
problems. However, I don't have a server so I can't speak for the
interactions needed for server interface and enterprise versions.

Mike,
Thanks for the response, it's good to know it is possible to have
several versions active. When I installed Project 2000, as I recall I
simply performed the standard install and it created a separate Proj2K
folder in the Program Files folder of my "C" drive. Project 98's
standard install previously placed it in the same directory but in the
Microsoft Office folder. May I assume that a standard install of Project
2003 will also create a separate folder, or do I need to manually create
a separate directory? The last thing I want is for the Globals to get
messed up.

Hi John,

As I understand it, the Global.mpt files are the problem ones and it's why
it is not recommended! I'm not interesed in, for example, using the
organizer to deal with macros or created tables and views. If I have need
to create a view to answer a problem, I never save the file afterwards, so
global.mtp problems don't arise. I thus keep my installations as pure, that
is, in their "as installed" condition. As it happens, on my laptop I have
98, 2002, 2002 & 2003, and a search for global gives me 9 versions! - It
doesn't bother me, as the raw installations allow me to answer questions
satisfactorily (at least I think it does :) )

Mike,
My needs are slightly different. I tend to do a lot of work with VBA,
but I don't expect problems in that area because all VBA "versions" from
98 through 2003 are compatible. The only real difference is the expanded
object libraries. However, if I supply a macro to someone in the
newsgroup, I want to make sure it operates with their version of Project.

Unless someone else responds and tells me I'm crazy (something I already
know) to use multiple versions, I'll probably just go ahead and "load
'er up" and see what happens. The worst thing is I'll have to re-install.

John,

Can't help with vba. Note that I installed each version in numerical order
which prevents older files corrupting the newer ones.
