conditional field value comparison

H

Han

I'm using an Access query as my data source, which contains duplicate
records of the same person, but with different circumstantial data.

For example:

Mary Jones, Appointment 1
Mary Jones, Appointment 2
Fred Barns, Appointment 1
Jenny Smith, Appointment 1

Using mail merge query options, I will filter only the data required. For
example, Mary Jones has two appointment. In my letter, I want her name to
appear followed by each appointment.

Mary Jones
Appointment 1
Appointment 2

How can this be accomplished using Word fields?

It might help to know how the Access data is structured. The name and
appointment data is stored in separate tables and are joined by a user ID.

The conditional in Word needs a way to compare and filter the data.

All comments/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Han,

I would do it all in Access. Word doesn't do it very well at all.
But, see the "Multiple items per condition" item under the "Special merges"
section of fellow MVP CIndy Meister's website at

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
