Conditional format other cells

I would like to have a group of cells formatted by
entering a number or letter in one cell.
I can only seem to get the one cell to respond.

Also, Can excel format cells by mouse position as on a
website?

Your help appreciated.

If you select the other cells and use formula is, then use
the condition for the one cell, i.e. if for instance you want to
format other cells if the one cell is larger than 10, select the other cells,

=$A$1>10

where A1 is the one cell
