Conditional Formatting based on deadlines

I'm trying to change the colour of rows based on how close the deadlin
is. The deadline date is in column E

I've been trying

=IF $E2<DATE+7

So, if the date in E2 is 7 days away or less, then apply conditiona
formatting.

Excel won't accept this, though.

Any ideas

Under conditional formatting set condition 1
Formula is =+$E2<=NOW()+7

Then apply your forma

Try =$E2 < (TODAY() + 7)

if you tried = DATE + 7
on the worksheet you would see that it is invalid
