Conditional Formatting Error

I have this problem with conditional formatting. I used it to place a pattern in each cell where
the formula returns a 0. Problem is that it seems that there is a limit as to how many excell will
allow. When I go to save the worksheet, Excel returns an error. It doesn't say what the error is
but it cleraly is the conditional formatting. It does save the sheet but when I open it, it only
have the conditional formatting up to the maximum and then everything else is blank.

So, the question! Is there another way to accomplish placing a dot pattern in a series of ranges
where the formula returns 0?

Thanks for all help.

Frick,

Limit to what? The number of conditions (that is 3, 4 with default)? The
number of cells you can apply CF to?

Can you explain the problem in more detail?

Eek! If Excel blindly does what you ask, it will make your workbook HUGE, and very slow to
recalculate. What happens if you only format the cells in use, and perhaps one extra column on
the right and an extra row below?

Is that bad -- it's Excel not VBA and is limited to the used range.
That is essentially what one does when they want the entire row to turn
color when one cell changes.

Select cell A1, then Ctrl+A
provide your 3 conditions the response is instantaneous.
