Conditional Formatting - Increases/Decreases

P

Paul Lambourne

Dear All,

I am creating a set of price lists and want to use conditional formatting to
show if the cost of a product has increased or decreased in price. I have
managed to get the formula to work and have managed to get the icons to
display the correct way but one thing that is frustrating me is the icons
colouring.

I want to highlight the changes and show a downward arrow, a decrease in
price as a green arrow (good), and I want to show and increase in price as a
red upward arrow (bad). The only icons in excel are the opposite way round,
red down, green up. Is there any way of changing this icons? edit there
colours? Is there a way of using my own icons?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi,

I think you are in luck:

Select the range that is already formatted and choose Home, Conditional
Formatting, Manage Rules, select the rule and choose Edit Rule, at the bottom
of the dialog box check the Reverse Icon Order

If this helps, please check the Yes button.

if you are using excel 07,

go to the conditional formatting and icons, choose 'more rules' at the
bottom of the list.
then, choose 3 arrows colored, (at the bottom of the window)
now you can choose when to show which arrow. (with your choise)

sorry missed one,
you also need to check "reverse icon order" in the more rules window.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions, I am pretty sure that I have tried reversing the
icons but all it does is reserve their use. The red DOWN arrow is shown for
an increase and the green UP is used for a decrease. What I want is to have a
RED UP and GREEN DOWN? Is there any way of using custom icons?

Thanks.

Paul
