Is there any way of applying a number format to a conditional formatting rule?

No, but you can probably use an intermediate and hidden cell to do what you
want. If you'd explain what your data looks like and how you want it
displayed, we can probably help.

I have a client proposal spreadsheet which can require different currencies and therefore rates, I have a dropdown box to choose the currency this then uses a lookup to pick the correct charge out rate per person in that currency. However rather than having no number fomatting I wanted to have the currency formatted correctly from the currency type picked on the values created.

I was able to do this in PC Excel through the conditional formatting but have lost this when converted into Mac 2008.

I thought about using the & in the formulas but this creates problems when using those numbers in subsequent formulas

thanks for your help

I would do this with a lookup table where the currencies are properly
formatted, instead of by conditional formatting. Yes, Windows Excel 2007 has
more conditional formatting options than Excel 2008.
