Conditional formatting

I have a table I want to display in continuous form view. I want each row to look different depending on the value of one of the fields; however, the display differences go beyond simply changing the color or font of the field values. I want to rearrange the order in which the fields are displayed as well as conditionally set some of the fields to visible or not visible. It seems I have to build my own conditional formatting functionality. Anybody know how to go about this
