conditional formatting

I am trying to set some conditional formats on controls
but the option is grayed out. Any ideas why?

Have you selected the Control(s) before trying to set the Conditional
Formatting for the Control(s)?

Note also that some Controls, e.g. Labels, don't have Conditional
Formatting.
