Conditional Formatting

I've built a report for employees that must have certain certifications.
These certifications have expirations dates. I would like to highlight dates
in red that have expired. When I've tried less than (12/1/2008) and between
dates (1/1/2007 thru 12/1/2008) it will highlight dates into 2009 and 2010
and not highlight dates in 2007. The format for this field is text, not date.

Store dates in date fields. If you can't, then convert them to actual dates
in your report's record source query.

I cannot have date field; because I have to put the work REQUIRED in this
text box too. I checked all my dates and they are either #/#/2007 or
##/##/2008, depending on what month they are due to expire. So, I developed
a new query. And it still did not work. In the cond format box I have
selected for 1st condition the equal to REQUIRED to be bold with a yellow
background; then I put a 2nd cond format between 1/1/2007 and 12/1/2008, red
and bold. It is a hit or miss situation; they highlight dates I do not want
like 2009 and 2010, and they don't always hit those dates either. Any help
would be apprecitated.
