Not that I am aware of: protection can be set only by keystrokes or a macro,
to the best of my knowledge.

Is there a way to apply or turn off protection to nominated Excel cells
depending on the value of a nearby cell? I guess I could write a macro, but
then others using Excel 2008 would not be able to use the spreadsheet.
