Config.msi file

D

Doug

I had an OEM install Windows 2000 Pro and Office 2000
Pro. Unfortunately, I am now trying to install other
features of my Office 2000 suite, but I am getting a fatal
error (see below). This is preventing me from repairing,
reinstalling, or uninstalling any or all of the Office
application. I have already contacted the OEM to no avail.

I have searched my hard drive and the Office 2000
installation CD but am unable to find a file
called 'config.msi' located on it with the View Hidden
Files feature for my hard drive turned on. Also, the
account I am using on this PC has full Admin privileges.

Can someone please provide some assistance to overcome
this problem?

The error is:

Error 1926. Could not set file security for
file 'C:\Config.msi\'. Error 5. Verify that you
sufficient privileges to modify the security permissions
for this file.

Hi Doug,

This particular error can be caused by some pretty
strange stuff :)

The \Config.msi folder is a hidden temporary folder
that is normally deleted by the MS Installer software
when it's done with it. You may want to try turning
on the display of hidden files and folders in Windows
Explorer Folder Options and deleting that folder and
be sure that you do have permissions (i.e. log in
as administrator) when trying to run setup for Office.
