Config Outlook03 to Pop & Exchange on domain & @ Home

Hey there all,

I have an office of 4 laptops with a newly installed Windows 2003 SBS. We
are using Exchange 2003 only for shared contacts & calendars, and to backup
our POP3 eMail configured on Outlook 2003 on the laptops.

Under eMail accounts in outlook 2003, pop3 email account is configured
first, then the Exchange. Outlook 2003 was configured in cashing mode and the
email is directed to go into the Exchange Mail box, not a pst file (so we can
backup the eMail from the Exchange server)

Everything works -fine- while on the 2003 domain network. However, when
taking laptops home on dsl or cable modem network, outlook asks to work
offline or online, we’ve tried both, but we can’t seem to receive or send any
eMail.

How can we configure Outlook 2003 to send and receive our POP3 eMail on the
laptops while on either the windows 2003 domain or home dsl/cable networks so
that when we connect later onto the windows 2003 domain to synchronize eMail
sent/received to the exchange mailbox for backup? (Is that a run on sentence?


To clarify, the POP3 email service is provided by a 3rd party Internet
company, not our exchange server.

Is RPC/HTTP mode enabled on the exchange? What connection setting is outlook
configured to use? (Try LAN so it will connect with any available.)

Hey there,

Connect using my local area network is selected in the connections tab for
the pop account.

I’m sorry I don’t know about the RPC/HTTP mode. I was the poor sole that
installed the exchange 2003 server and used the standard install with no
additional configurations. If additional configuration is needed for the
RPC/HTTP, then it is not installed.
