config restored from PDA at first sync after outlook reinstall on

Folks, will the configuration (categories, data, etc.) be restored to my
laptop FROM my Dell Axim (WM5) when I hook up the first sync after
reinstalling Outlook2007?

A month ago or so I had a OL2007 configuration syncing through ActiveSync
4.2. I had built some custom categories. I felt needed to wipe the Toshiba
laptop's drive clean and reinstall the OS (TabletOS) so after doing so I
reinstalled Office 2007. Some data changes (contact info) need to come from
the PDA and some come from the laptop.

If I set the conduit to "sync the two files" will I retain the categories
now in the PDA installation of Pocket Outlook?

Perhaps, but why not save the categories you're using? First, if you reuse
the PST, the categories it contains will still be in the items. You can
also get the categories from the registry.

Brian,
Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I *did* place the PST back into the local
data or shared data (whatever) directory because I am using all the previous
data. However, the categories aren't showing in the category choice dialogs.
hmm-- I remember that I have to do something to release the display of these.
When I last looked there was almost no mention of categories and their
maintenance in the Outlook Help files, local or 'net based.

A lot of the categories go way back to long-ago collections of data in
opther programs like ACT and FileMaker. I kept their use but find it a lot
harder to use them in Outlook, even v2007.

I wish the MS help went into this level of detail. Out here on a somewhat
rural island of Hawai'i the good tech how-to books haven't made it to our
[hour-away] Borders.

I will sync tonight and hope all goes well with the merge of changes on both
the Axim and the laptop.
