Configuration and new of project portfolio 2007 (EPM)

I have EPM2007 installed on a server and I'm trying to determine whether the
machine is sized adequately of the optimizer module. I have been testing the
optimizer with about 30 projects. I have increased the number of projects to
1000 and the optimizer is now crawling. Has anyone stress tested the
optimizer? Is there information on sizing based on the number of projects
that are to be feed to the optimizer in order to determine a portfolio?
