I just installed a full version of OneNote 2007. I deleted the trial
version of ON2007 rather than attempt to upgrade. The deletion process
took 20 minutes, an unusually long time. The installation took the same
length of time. The setup asked for the product activation key right at the
beginning & after that went smoothly & needed no input on my part. I
rebooted the computer, then when I attempted to launch OneNote, a
configuration window opened, and the machine hung indefinitely. I used Task
Manager to delete the process & start over.
I went to the folder where my previous OneNote 2007 notebook had been
stored, double-clicked on it & OneNote opened this just fine. I attempted
to change some of the program's options, and the cursed "Configuration"
window opened again, and the machine paused. I opened Task Manager again,
found a program in its "Processes" folder named something like "msiexec.exe"
taking 89% of CPU resources. Rather than closing this, I went to the
"Applications" folder of Task Manager, closed one of several programs that
seemed to be associated with the configuration process (from their name) and
suddenly the process sped up & completed in a few seconds. It seemed like
the "Configuration" program was conflicting with something else associated
with OneNote running at the same time.
