Configure Outlook mobile

Hi all, I have an HTC 8525 mobile device with Windows Mobile 5 and would like
to know whether I have to set up my IMAP account on my mobile device even
though I have the account synced from my PC. I don't want duplicate messages
appearing in my mobile device's Inbox after syncing the device, hence my
question.

Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
tsugazi

You can have the PDA sync with Outlook via its partnership with ActiveSync
on a non-Vista Windows or with Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista. The
Inbox on the PDA will download messages from the Outlook Inbox and Outlook
will send the messages from the PDA's Outbox when you sync.

Brian, thank you for your quick response. If I wanted to be able to check my
mail when my device isn't synced, can I setup the IMAP account to check mail
when I have an internet connection while away from PC? Are the settings
associated with the sync sufficient for this or are these settings just like
a mirror, where the information I identify (period of time, attachment file
size, etc.) is copied to my device? I guess that's the real issue that I'm
having.

Thank you for your help.

I don't know if Mobile 5 supports IMAP (but I think so). Ask in
microsoft.public.pocketpc to be sure.

Synching with Outlook and getting mail from an external server are really
not related, as far as I can tell. I haven't experimented much with mail on
my Windows Mobile device (I don't really want to get mail on the device) so,
again, you're better off asking in the Windows Mobile newsgroup.

Yes, WM5 supports IMAP and you can setup an account to check your IMAP
server when away from your desktop and syncing with Outlook. You'll need to
add account settings, you can't "import" them from Mobile Outlook. The
Mobile Outlook service and the IMAP service will be separate, but a mirror
of each other, at least as far as email is concerned:

1. You'll be able to send and receive IMAP email, but won't have any control
over Contacts, Tasks, etc.
2. When you return to your PC, Outlook will pickup the changes made to the
IMAP folders by your WM5 device's IMAP service.
3. Mobile Outlook's inbox will acquire these changes when you sync the WM5
device with it.
