configuring smtp server

I've recently moved outlook from one machine to another and importing the
..pst file. when i've setup the incoming mail server it works but the outgoing
smpt server keeps prompting me for a login. i have it set up to use the same
username and password as my incoming but every time i click send/recieve it
asks me for my login info for the smtp server and when i enter it doesn't
take it it comes back with the login promp. any ideas?
