configuring Word to recognize custom hyperlink value

Is there a way to configure Word through the registry or some other
means to recognize a text value as a hyperlink? By default, Word will
make http://some value or file://some value a hyperlink when you hit
enter. Can I configure Word to make Joe:// a hyperlink automatically?

Thanks for your help!

word 2003 has the option to insert a hyperlink, it's under the "insert"
menu, or Ctrl+k for a shortcut. maybe that will work with yours, or look
up hyperlink in the help menu!
hope that helps!

I appreciate the reply, but this is not exactly what I'm looking for.
When you type in http://a and hit enter or file://a and hit enter, Word
automatically recognizes this as a hyperlink will run a program that is
registered with this protocol (see file types URL:http). I want Word
to react similarly to some custom text that I define. I wasn't sure if
there is a way to Configure this or whether it is a "hard-coded"
behavior that can't be extended.

Yeah mate, you need to highlight the text you want as a hyperlink in the document, then click on the hyperlink icon which then
opens a window which will display your text in a bar at the top of the window. Type in the required URL in the Address bar at the
bottom then click Ok and you should have the solution to your problem.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Cheers
Buck
