I used to use the check mark ✓ and cancel X when editing formulas in cells all the time in excel 2004 but I can't find them in 2008. Anybody know if there is something similar in 2008?

No there isn't. Try the ESC key to cancel, and the Enter Key to complete the
formula. If you'd like to see something different, submit a request via the

Hi Bob -

Not entirely true :) The green check is altogether AWOL, but the X simply
has been moved to the *right* end of the Formula Bar - which is almost as
much of a PITA ;-)

For the OP: If your use of the check was to enter without causing the cell
selector to move try using Control+return.
