Conflict with Access 97 and Acrobat reader

I have hundreds of documents converted to PDF files using
Acrobat 3. These are then inserted into a Microsoft Access
97 data base as Objects.

Users with Acrobat reader 3 can read the documents in the
data base just fine.

Users with Acrobat reader 4 or 5 can not.

Why?

If I create a PDF file with Acrobat 3 and just save it all
readers can read it just fine. It is only when I insert
them into the Access database that they can not be read.
It must be something in the interaction with Access 97 and
the versions of Access reader????

Any ideas?
