Conflicting Task Updates and Tasks of the Same Name

Eric

PWA and Project Pro. shows different values on the task status of certain task.

Question no. 1:

If there are more than resources in a task (i.e Task 1 has Person 1 and
Person 2), is the task status equal to the average of task update the Persons
has inputed. If Person 1 = 50% and Person 2 = 70% so Task 1 is 60% complete
(average of 70 & 50)???

Question no. 2:

Will having more than two task of the same name cause conflict on showing
the current status of the task? i.e.

Phase1
Code
Debug
Phase2
Code
Debug

We were having issues because there were times when Phase1-Code shows the
averaga of Phase1-Code and Phase2-Code task.

Any help on this ???

Eric,

#1
If a task has more than one resource assigned, % complete is calculated
based on how many hours each person has completed divided by total hours. In
your description below, you need to look at work/person in relation to total
work on the task.

#2
No. You can have multiple tasks of the same name. Project identifies each
task by its ID# and does the calculation on the ID#. It might be a little
confusing for your resources to see task names that are the same, but
calcuation works fine.

Hope this helps,

Sara

on your answer to #2

It should based the calculation on unique ID# of the task but in our case it
sometimes show the average of other tasks with the same name, so i just
advise my peers to name their task as unique as possible.
