Confused by a non 8hr calendar

R

Ron

Hi,

I am trying to set up my scedule based on an 6 hr day rather than an 8
hr. I have done the following

New base calendar called "6 hour day"

9:00am - 12 noon
1:00pm - 4pm

In the options I have

Default start 9:00am

Defauly finish 4:00pm

Hours per day 6

Hours per week 30

Days per month 17

I set up a resource to use "6 hour day" as the base calendar

I would expect that the task would finish on day 2 at 4pm but it
finished at 3pm. Looking at the Gannt chart shows day 2 has working
time commencing at 8am rather than at 9am as specified in the
calendar.

Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong would be appreciated.

Hello Ron,

Did you set the "6 hour day" calendar as the calendar for the project?
Check Project > Project Information. What time does your task start? I
suggest changing the date format to show time as well. Tools > Options,
view tab and select a date format with time.

Check the start date AND time for your project. Does it start at 8:00
am or 9:00 am?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Ron, the schedule must use the new calendar (Project, Project
Information), as must resources assigned to tasks (as their default
calendar) as well for it to work properly. Tools options default
start finish times too need tweaking as does Start date under Project
Information).

Also when setting up the new calendar you need to choose each day and
ensure the times on the right hand side of screen add up to 6hrs. Oh
and also the non working time display refers to a calendar too.

Sometimes its easier to just change the "standard" calendar - much
less confusing.

There is also an attribute against each task where you can overide
calendar too, but I assume you havent done that.

Good luck
