I've just tried to install an MSDN copy of Project Server 2007 on my
development server. That is, the development server hosts the main
applications and a different server hosts the DB.
I followed the basic installation wizard, followed by the configuration
wizard, and then I addressed each Administration Task in turn.
Eventually, I'd finished everything (at least I think so) and I now have
the following Farm Topology:
DBServer - Windows SharePoint Services Database
MailServer - Windows SharePoint Services Outgoing E-Mail
DevServer - Central Administration
- Windows SharePoint Services Incoming E-Mail
- Windows SharePoint Services Search
- Windows SharePoint Services Web Application
So far so good... But where is Project Server??
According to Technet
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197677.aspx) The Project
Application Service should be listed on the Services on Server page, but
only services list above are (apart from the unconfigurable Timer and
Administration services).
I've managed to create a site under Shared Services Administration,
using the Microsoft Office Project Template, and it allows my to enter
Project Tasks etc. I thought that this might be *it*, the end product...
Maybe I had done everthing right, after all...?
I then tried to link my standalone copy of Project to the server, but I
couldn't connect to the server. With such a proliferation of servers and
services created, it was hard to know which one. But then I wondered if
the 'missing' Project Server Service might expose another Server which
my local copy of Project can connect to.
So here I am. I have a basic Sharepoint site with some basic PM
capabilities, and a local copy of Project that I can't connect to my site.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.
