Connect a Document to a Database

How do I connect a Word template with fillable/dropdown fields to an Access
database?

Essentially the Word templates are forms I just need to know how to bypass
doing twice the work by having this information automatically populate an
Access 2003 database. Right now the boss is making me enter all the data
from the word documents contained in those fillable/dropdown fields into an
Access database manually...seems twice the work.

Gosh, I'd much rather go the other way, by entering data into Access and
exporting to Word as needed. Access MVP Albert Kallal has a sample available
called "Super Easy Word Merge" on this page, if you can convince your boss to
do this. His example can be found on this page:

That said, if you really must go from Word to Access, here is an article
that explains how to do it:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa155434.aspx

When this article was first published, there was a sample download included.
This download seems to have been removed. You can get the download, with the
original article saved as a Word document, from my web site, here:

If you are able to follow Tom's advice of entering the data in Access first
rather than Word you'll find a demo of various Access to Word automation
operations at the following link, including the insertion of data from Access
into Word form fields, as well as merging, filling Word tables and inserting
data at bookmarks in a Word document:
