Connect foreign child and parents shapes in VISIO WBS Modeler

Hi all,

i want create a Work breakdown structure for big solar plant construction
projects. For this case i want to bild standard shapes, which can be brought
together for the respective use case (roof, open area, etc).
Sadly i get always the advice "Foreign shapes cannot be connected.
Connection has been deleted", if I connect the shape from the library with
the "father project" shape.
I also tryed to give the "child" shapes from the library other outline
Numbers and Levels to give the WBS the right structure back.
Maybe someone can help me to outflank the programm or clear the costiveness
between my ears.

snatches of sunshine in the wintertime and thousand thanks

Well, since I wrote it, I can tell you that connections will be rejected
unless they have particular User and Shape Data rows.
If you want your own graphics in the shapes, then I recomend that you drag
the Element master on to your blank page. Then delete it
Open the Document Stencil
Edit the Elmenet master
Select the shape and Convert it into a group
Change the transparency of the fill and lines of the shape
Open the Task group
Insert any graphics you want
Close the Element master

You will then be using your own version of the Elelemnt Master in that
document.
If you want this in multiple documents, then save as a template

You will then be able to open the individual instances of each Element to
add in whatever graphics you want to

Dear David,

a lot of thanks for your quick answer, and for that helpful program WBS
Modeler. Unfortunately I had characterized my problem inexpertly. I don’t
want to modify my shapes of the WBS with graphics, which is admittedly a good
idea.
I want to create a VISIO stencil, which comprised several little project
parts. Some of this little standard project parts should come together, to
build a big “real†project, which I like to illustrate at one page.
My problem is that I can’t connect my “standard project shapes†from the
stencil with the “father project shapeâ€. Here I always get the advice
"Foreign shapes cannot be connected. Connection has been deleted".
Do you, or someone else, see a chance to connect foreign shapes and bring
them in one family? Or should I look for another way to build a standard WBS.

thousand thanks

We were advised that a correct WBS should only consider the relationship of
Elements ... not even Tasks.

So, in WBS Modeler you are only able to connect Elements together ...
nothing else. If other shapes were allowed, then it would make the export
to Project unbelievably difficult.
