Connect to SharePoint server problem

Hi,
I am pulling my hair out over a problem that I cannot find an answer to.
I have installed Project Server 2003 - got all users created, setup SQL
Server database etc.
All seems to be working fine until I get to the part where I login to
project web access and need to "Manage Windows SharePoint Services".
On the screen headed "Connect to SharePoint server", I enter the URLs that
DO work (I can browse the URL in a web page and land at the page expected -
sharepoint central admin - so I know it works fine) - except that when I
click "save changes", I get the following error message (javascript alert):

Project Server cannot connect to the specified Web server running Windows
SharePoint Services. Please check the HTTP protocols and the port numbers in
both URLs.

As mentioned - the urls (with port numbers) work fine when I use them in a
browser window!
Can somebody please help me?
Cheers,
Rob

Did you create the WSS administrator? On page 67 of the MS Project 2003
Installation Guide the last step in Chapter 5 Configure Windows
Sharepoint Services is to create a WSS administrator. It states that in
order for PS 2003 to access MS WSS you must create a WSS administrator
on the computer running WSS....I personally have been battling with
attempting to move my PS 2003 and WSS instance to a new machine with a
different name and have found no documented process for accomplishing
this. Hence I have been in the research and troubleshooting mode for a
while now, and this particular problem of PS 2003 not being able to
connect to WSS is fresh in my wounded memory. Once I entered the domain
userid that I established for this purpose PS 2003 was able to connect
to WSS.

To the best of my knowledge, I have created all required users on the server
and assigned them to relevant groups.

You think this is a permissions issue?
I stuck - I don't know what to check further...

I have set Basic Authenticaion in IIS to allow access to the sites as
instructed?
If anyone knows what else this might be (if it is something else...), I'd
sure appreciate the help.

This installation is on a SBS2003 server, if that makes a difference?
Cheers,
Rob
