CONNECT TWO COMPUTERS

i want to copy files from one computer to another.
i have connected the two computers with a cable, but i cannot find the way to copy files from one computer to another.
i tried to do something through my network places that appears on the desktop, but it didn't work!
do i have to set-up a new connection in each computer and then create shortcuts on the desktop
which are the steps i have to take in order to copy files

pls help me!
