Arvin was a GREAT help to me:
Your assistance you provided me regarding a recent request
to be able to automatically enter a value into a separate
table that matches the original table worked great
(although I went with the "default" line rather than the
code as I could not figure out where to put the code -
newbe and all).
But, my "newbeism" continues to plague me. I added a
button to open the "connected" form which does now place
the value in "Case Number" (a primary key to avoid
duplicates). but (duh!) when I try to retrieve the data
again by pressing the button, of course, it attempts to
again run the default and the original data in the other
fields is lost on the form (but exists on the table since
the default allows the completing of that datasheet
line). What I want to be able to do is, once the second
form is populated (automatically with the Case Number, the
rest manually), all future openings for updates, etc. will
bring up the connected data without re-defaulting. Don
