Hi Guys

I need to connect to an SQL Server from Excel 2007. I get to the step in the
"Data Connection Wizard" where it asks for the server name, username and
password (We use SQL Server authentication). So I've tried entering the
server name as an IP address and then as it's real name. I get the error
mesasge "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Invalid Instance()).]Invalid connection."
My next step is to enter the server name as "Real Name\Instance". I get the
error mesasge "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not
exist or access denied."

Now I can connect to this SQL Server via the SQL Server Management Studio
Express tool and Visual Studio 2005. I get the same error messages when I try
and set up an ODBC connection System DSN via the (XP Pro) Start/Admin
Tools/Data Sources/ dialog box.

HI

It turns out in Excel 07 that you need to go to "Data/From Other
Sources/Microsoft Query/..." and you can get at the SQL Server that way.

Thanks anyway
