Connecting to Exchange - folder tree limit?

M

Marc Baizman

All,

I'm connecting to an Exchange 2000 server. Everything seems to be fine
until I try to go 3 levels deep in the folder hierarchy. Then Entourage
can't find and messages or subfolders. It's very strange. When I try to
get the folder properties, Entourage tells me it can't connect to the
server, even though I know perfectly well it's connected and downloading
mail properly. Anyone? Thanks!

Hi Marc!

Can you test this by going to Entourage --> Switch Identity... and
creating a new Identity with the same account information? I'm not aware
of any Exchange or Entourage limits with nested folders (although the
more nested folders you have the less reliable searching can be).

I assume you're using Entourage 2004 patched to 11.3.3, correct?

Bill,

Thanks for the reply. Yup, I created a new identity, and got the same
results. Yes, Entourage 2004 patched to 11.3.3. Sorry I didn't specify
right away. It takes a bit for the subfolders to appear when they are first
downloaded from the server, and I get the "Now Synchronizing..." message in
the lower right corner (where the "Schedule Send & Rec'v" message is. But,
still, no joy.

How many MB or GB is the database that has to be downloaded? I would
assumed you've waited quite a while waiting for the files to sync or
else you wouldn't be posting here but I do know from experience that the
sync process seems to do all folders/messages in one level first before
moving to sub-level folders. Therefore, email will download into the top
level folders first before any of the sub-folders and so on.

You might also try putting your account into Headers Only mode, which
should be similar to non-cached mode in Outlook for Windows. To do this
open Entourage and go to Tools --> Accounts --> <your Exchange account>
--> Options. Set "Partially receive messages over 9999 kb always". This
sounds counter-intuitive but that's how it works. After you click OK to
close all the dialogs you'll notice your account name in the folders
list on the left will show "(Headers Only)" next to it.

If that doesn't work then you may have a corrupt message stopping the
sync process. Browse your sub-folders until you see where messages stop
and then go into Outlook Web Access (OWA) to move or delete the next
message. I would imagine it would stand out because it may have an odd
attachment or strange appearance to it.

Hope this helps! bill

Bill,

Thanks for your suggestions, although to no avail. I actually found a
few other people with the same issue, and still no resolution. I can't
seem to find any "corrupted messages" seeing as OWA seems to display
all messages properly (although of course, displays like garbage on a
Mac, which is the reason for trying to use Entourage in the first
place).
