Connecting to Exchange server... no password prompt... big problem

P

Patrick

Client box:
-Win XP Pro SP 2
-Dell Dimension 2400
-Using Microsoft Outlook 2002
-Freshly formatted, no OEM Software crap, drivers installed

Server Box
- Windows SErver 2003 (Ent Edition)
- HP a824n
- Active Directory
- Formatted once purchased, no OEM software crap, drivers installed, has
been running fine for MONTHS

I setup a new mail account on the client, and use it to link to a
long-established Microsoft Exchange account. I punch in the server (VOLASERV)
and then I type in the name of the person. (Patrick)
It finds the proper name when I check names... however... IT DOES NOT PROMPT
ME FOR A PASSWORD AT THE END OF SETUP. This is a problem since every other
box in the office asks for a password when creating a new account.

I load outlook.. again, it doesn't ask me for a password, and I go to access
the Public Folders though outlook.. it says I have no permission. I go to
check the mail, it says "Operation failed due to a registry or installation
problem."

So, I figure I'll just cut straight to the heart of it. I delete the Patrick
box and setup a new Exchange box called Administrator. Now, I have access to
everything... except specific folders that are intentionally set for Patrick
to have permission to edit.

I find this odd because Administrator is also the Windows login of the
client box. And again, when entering the Outlook Administrator information,
it DID NOT PROMPT me to type in a password.

It also doesnt prompt me for passwords went opening Outlook like every other
box in the office.

This is a very annoying problem. No one on the internet has ever encountered
this problem before, and sorting though 700,000 microsoft pages of cases that
induce this problem is not my idea of efficiency.

Anyone got a clue as to whats going on? This is total insanity.

If the user's Windows login has Full Control access over the long established Exchange account, then no password is required, because the user has already entered sufficient credentials when logging into Windows. If you want to require a password in that scenario, you can change the option in the Exchange account settings, on the Security tab, to prompt for a password.
