Connecting to Project 2007 server from Pro 2007

I have a bit of an issue connecting from Project Pro 2007 to Server
2007. Perhaps someone has encountered this before and can help:

I can successfully connect from Project Pro to Server using the
administrator account, which the one that I used to set up PWA, but I
am unable to connect with any other user. I've selected "manually
control connection state" and all other required steps, but the server
simply does not allow any other users to connect besides
administrator.

I'm able to access web interface using other users, but just not using
the Project client.

Any ideas? I've been bashing my head against a wall for quite a few
hours on this one...

Thanks.

hi xzoozx,

that sounds very much like an access issues. Can you plesae check if the
users are associated to the PM User group ( or have access rights to open
Project Professional). If this is the case, what error message do you receive?
thanks

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the quick reply... The user I'm attempting to login with is
simply an AD domain user, and member of builtin/Administrators. I also
added him to the WSS_WPG and WSS_ADMIN_WPG groups to test, but that
didn't work.

The error is simply "Login Failed. Project could not connect to the
server. Please check your username and password and try again." In the
Event Viewer, I see "Soap error: Unspecified client error..".

I'm not sure what you mean by the PM User group, but I've added this
users to "Members" and "Owners" under Site Settings in PWA.

Thanks for your help,

Dave

Dave, I think there is some confusion between "Project Server permissions"
and "SharePoint permissions". When Marc says add the user to the "PM User
group", he meant adding the user to the Project Server default Security
group called "Project Managers". The way you do it is:

1) Go to PWA
2) Click on 'Server Settings' in the nav. Click on 'Manage Groups'
3) Click on 'Project Managers' group. Add the user to this group.

In essence, to login from Project Professional, the user needs to have "Log
on to Project Server from Project Professional" global permission (this
global permission is given to the 'Project Managers' security group). Even
without this permission, users can potentially browse the PWA website - but
can't login using Project Professional.
