Connecting, with glue, using exactly vertical or horizontal lines

I’m having a hard time getting the appropriate appearance in a simple
diagram, so I figure there must be an answer staring me in the face.
This is Visio Pro 2003 under WinXP SP2, and I’m a relative newbie to
Visio. I know it’s improper to post attachments here, so I’ve put a
screenshot at:

http://www.speakeasy.org/~mtangard/visio_screenshot.gif

I use connectors so they’ll stick if the boxes move. Normaly these must
be perfectly horizontal or perfectly vertical lines. Often, the
built-in connection points on the "target" shape or connector aren't
even with those on the "origin" shape. For example, Line B (the green
one in the screenshot) must connect the midpoint of the top of Box D to
a point on Line F *directly* above it; so B needs to be exactly vertical.

While dragging upward from D to F to add the connector, the tip glows
red at 2 possible points on Line F, but neither point is exactly above
the point on D that I’m dragging FROM, so either the connector gets an
unsightly jog as shown, or the top end of B fails to glow red, meaning
it’s not glued.

I know I can fix this by setting the zoom incredibly high, and then,
using the grid, adding a connection point on F whose horizontal position
matches the horizontal center of Box D. But that’s very time-consuming,
and in a typical drawing I often need to do that a dozen times. Is
there an easier/faster way?

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

In all the years of using Visio from ver. 1.0 I've never found a better or
faster way except to use the "align" tool, but it simply moves the box
automatically and does not make new connection points or glue anything
