connection failure to microsft project server 2003

Hi,

I try to connect from a workstation running microsoft project pro 2003 to a
server running microsoft project server 2003 but it fails everytime. I've
tried connecting using both a windows account and a project account. The
error reads: "unexpected server response, project server has received an
unexpected response. Click the view button to view the server response as
an error page.."

Does the server and workstation both have to be in the same windows domain
or can the workstation be a member of the domain and the server a standalone
server in a workgroup?
