Connection points in large shape files don't respond

I have been modifying shapes by adding a
connection point to snap the shape to a line. I have done this many times and
it works perfectly. I have only used Visio 2003.

Three of my shapes will not work. When I drag the shape across the line, the
shape connection point does not snap to the line. With glue on I never see
the connection point in the shape turn red like all of the shapes that work.

I can glue other shapes to these three shape connection points and the
connection points in the three shapes turn red; however, if I try to glue any
of these 3 shapes to another shape the connection points in the three shapes
or other shapes will not respond or appear red.

When I drag these 3 shapes around I only see an outline
unless I go very slowly. With the shapes that work I see the shape details
immediately when I move them.

The 3 shapes I am talking about are around 30 to 40 KB in size. I am
suspecting it has something to do with the bite size of the shape?????? One
of the shapes I ungrouped and took shapes out until I could group them again
and make the connection point work.

I tried using combine but the shapes have programming and Visio created a
new shape and discarded the old shapesheets with programming.

I also grouped simple shapes (circles, rectangles, lines) with no
programming progressively to a point where the connection point would no
longer respond to test my suspicion about file size.
Any suggestions on how to make the connection point work?

We're having exactly the same problem! And we agree entirely with your
conclusion that it has to do with file size. Have you found any way
round it?

While I don't have specific details, Visio stops glueing to connection
points if too many of them are present in a specific area of the drawing. I
don't believe this limit is easily quantified though.

Hi,

This shape has only five connection points only one of which I needed. I
took the other four out and it made no difference. I did see a post by
WendyParkinson I believe describing how she converted a 2 dimentional shape
to a one dimensional shape and the connection point started working. I did
that and it seems to be working. I need to test it more.

I just wonderif there are any problems to think about when shapes are
converted like this. I guess you can simply convert it back to a two
dimensional shape if that is necessary and nothing is lost.

This is interesting to me why this works if the file size is the problem.

Thanks for responding.
