Connection to Exchange Server Unavailable

I have just set up a new machine on our LAN (Exchange 2000) using XP
professional with office 2003. When I try to set up my account I can't find
my mailbox and get the message 'The connection to microsoft exchange server
is unavailable, Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action'.

I am unsure why this happens as I appear to have connected to our server
correctly. I can access the internet and network folders. I am trying to
access a mailbox that I had no previous problems with.
