Connection to Sharepoint Service failed

Hi.

We have some problems in connecting to WSS.
We use Project Server 2003 which was installed before WSS.
I installed WSS afterwards but cannot connect to it from Web Access.

I added these paths to Web Access:
- SharePoint Central Administration URL: http://servername:21744
- Create a site under this SharePoint URL:
http://servername:80/sites

When I click on "Save changes" the following message appears:
Project Server cannot connect to the specified Web server running WSS.
Please check the HTTP protocols and the port numbers in both URLs.

I checked the central administration URL which I found in IIS. It was ok.
But where can I check the other URL. I couldn't find it in IIS. And I
couldn't find "sites".

Can you help me?
I'm grateful for every answer.

Eichelmännchen:

When you installed WSS on the default website, it took over control of your
Project Server virtual directory. Now you must go to SharePoint Central
administration and add the path to your Project Server virtual site to the
exclusions in the SharePoint managed paths list.

Hello Gary.

Thank you for your answer.
Project Server is already part of the excluded paths.
Web Access works perfectly in all parts not depending on WSS. Only when I
try to connect to WSS Server (inside Web Access Admin/Manage WSS) I have
problems.

Do you have any other idea, where our problem could be?

Sylvia:

If you installed WSS afterwards, did you remember to create a WSSAdmin
account with the correct privileges and add it to COM+ using the PSCOM+
tool? If you missed this step, it would explain your difficulty.
