Connection to SQL

I am trying to write some code to confirm that my linked
tables (to MS SQL 7.0) is active. The purpose is to
confirm that the user is logged into the network. If not
then a different set of actions need to occur.

I would like to have the code as part of a screen event
(timer) using VBA.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm drawing
a blank!
