connector tool not working for me now

The connector tool is, for some reason, defaulting to a right angle shape
and does not connect from attachmant point on a process flowchart shape to
another. It won't let me drag one end and attach it to a shape as I am
accustomed to doing? Is there a way to reset the tool to a default behavior?
And after I change its setting from right angle to straight connector, it
reverts back to right angle the next time I use the tool.. ???

file/page setup/layout and routing/style/straight should do the trick

That didn't do it...I'm not sure what I did to the app.
