what program will allow me to enter a start number, like
0001, and an end number, like 10,000 and fill in all
numbers in between and the kicker is, HOW? thanks

Excel has several means, including Data Fill.

Easy to do in Excel. Simply start numbering cells 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. in a
column. Select the cells and then use the fill handle (fill handle: The
small black square in the lower-right corner of the selection. When you
point to the fill handle, the pointer changes to a black cross.) to drag
down as many rows as you want to fill with a continuation of the series.

thank you for that quick reply. perhaps i did not make
myself clear. is there a way to enter a start number & an
end number & have the program fill in the in between
numbers?

What program?

It is a trivial matter to write a program (in C, or any other inferior
language) to do this, but where do you want the output? Are you trying to
do it in Word, or Excel, or where?
