Consolidated project - read only

I have a consolidated project with several projects inserted read only with
links. I'm using Project 2003 Professional SP1. If I update one of the
projects, save and close it and then open up the consolidated project, one
summary task shows for each inserted project but the summary task info does
not correctly reflect my most recent changes until I expand the inserted
projects. I thought this was supposed to be a live link even though it is
inserted as read only. Is this a bug or functioning as designed?

If I understand well, what you noticed is the normal behavior of Project.
