Constant Crashes across Entire Office 2008 Suite

Hi all,

I have been experiencing crashes across the entire office 2008 suite, making it totally unusable (been using openoffice for a while). This occurs when I even attempt to do something in each application. So far, I have reinstalled and clear out the necessary Microsoft User Data folders + Library/Pref folders. I also created a new user account to see if the problem is system wide or just an account, and it seems to be associated with my account. Could anyone make any sense of the crash reports?

Please keep in mind that the people here are other users, not systems

error reports is a waste of your time & energy - they mean little if
anything more to us than they do to you

If a new user account doesn't exhibit the same problem you're absolutely
correct in your interpretation that the problem is apparently the original
account. Based on past experience the most expedient remedy is to move your
data to the new account & delete the other one. It could take weeks to
analyze the problem & it may still not be correctable when/if found.

My Office 2008 for Mac crashes all the time too, usually when I scroll
through .docx with a lot of tables/graphics. The helpline said that's why it
does it - I'm staggered that that seems to be an acceptable explanation. The
helpline offered no cure.
I'm stuck with using it because of exchanging documents. It's misery.

Office 24004 for Mac was stable.

Same problem here - crashes across all programs since the update. I must say that Office is the ONLY program I get this from. All my other programs update and install without incident!

Did you install with ALL Microsoft applications quit? Did you restart after
updating?

There are always some users even doing everything right that will experience
problems. Then there are people that do very little right and experience no
problems. Go figure.

Yes, and Yes.

I run my entire business on my Mac and aside from Office, I run numerous other programs (Path Finder, Mail, Safari, Address Book, Skype, Omni Outliner, Mac Journal, iList Data, PDF Pen Pro and Readiris) to name my more consistent use programs. Very Very rarely do I get a crash with any of these except Office. AND Office usually starts crashing AFTER an update.

Hmmmmm, this has to be something specific to your setup. Did I ask if you
were Admin when you updated?

Move the Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop and let Entourage create
a new one. Entourage will open in a new blank Identity, but does this work?
Do you other applications work?

If no, then Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts.
Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test
Office there.

If yes, then drag your Main Identity from the old Microsoft User Data folder
on the desktop to your Office 2008 Identities folder and let it overwrite
the new blank one. Open Entourage and see if your problems still exist.

Tip: zip your Office folder before updating or you can use a backup copy to
replace if you need to revert. This won't help is something else has been
modified, but will allow you to revert easily.

I've had a strange problem myself, but it involves OmniWeb. If I click on
the OW icon in the Dock after restarting, nothing happens, but if I click on
a link to launch OW, it opens.
