Constant crashes with Outlook 2003 (version 11.0.8010.0) on XP SP2

Sandokan

Trying to perform almost *any* action once Outlook has started is causing a
crash. Actions tested include right click on folder tree view (immediate
crash), read an email (can read 1 or 2, then crash), send & receive for 2
POP3 accounts, one TCP and one SSL (crash halfway through downloading
messages). XP Pro SP2 + latest updates from windows-update. Outlook 2003
with SP2 + updates from office-update. Outlook.exe version 11.0.8010.0,
AppStamp 43d16d53, ModName oleaut32.dll, ModVer 5.1.2600.2180, ModStamp
411096f3, fDebug 0, Offset 00004ba4. Exception information: code 0x000005,
flags 0x000000, record 0x0000000000000000, address 0x0000000077124ba4. Error
reporting to MS provides no information. Searched knowledge base and checked
for further updates - also no information. At a loss as to the cause - but
it is now impossible to use Outlook 2003 :-(

Have you tried creating a new mail profile via the mail applet in the
control panel and using it? (do not copy the existing mail profile. create
a new one and switch to it to see if it solves the generic access denied
message.)

I am having the same problem as Sandokan and am about to throw my computer
over a bridge and then jump myself.

I appreciate your advice but I do not understand it. Can you tell me HOW to
create a new mail profile? I need explicit directions.

Thank you!

Thank you.

Okay, I got to step #12. When I click on "check name" things go wrong. I get
this error:
szAppName : rundll32.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

and a message that says,

"You chose to end the nonresponsive program, Run a DLL as an App."

I've tried to get through this step several times and keep experiencing the
same things.

Any more advice?

Weird. Skip steps 12 thru 15.

If that doesn't work, could try renaming oleaut32.dll in the
\windows\system32 directory to oleaut32.bak and copy over a replacement from
\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. (Note: I'm assuming that you are running
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied.)

I did this--and so far, so good. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Tried this. No difference. Also tried to replace oleuat32.dll in system32
with a copy from the SP2 service pack files. Also no difference.

Could I ask why you felt a new profile would make any difference?

The Outlook profile is stored in the registry. Creating a new one helps
rule out registry corruption/bad entry.

Have you tried running the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) on your *.pst
files to ensure they are in good health?

Can also try starting Outlook in safe mode (outlook.exe /safe) to rule out
any issues with 3rd party addins and such.
